About Dr. Ratnnadeep C. Sawant
Dr. Ratnnadeep C. Sawant [M.Sc., Ph.D. (NCHU, Taiwan), Postdoctoral Fellow
(NTHU, Hsinchu and Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan)] is presently working as Assistant
Professor, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur. He
studied M.Sc. Chemistry at Yashwant Mahavidyalaya, Nanded affiliated to Swami Ramanand
Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, Maharashtra from 2008 to 2010. During his M.Sc., he
was selected as IAS-INSA-NASI Summer Research Fellow by Indian Academy of Science,
Bangalore and worked at National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology,
Trivandrum, Kerala under the guidance of Prof. K. V. Radhakrishnan on palladium chemistry in
- His Ph.D. studies were carried out at the Department of Chemistry, National Chung Hsing
University, Taichung, Taiwan under the guidance of Prof. Shun-Yuan Luo and obtained his PhD
in 2015. His PhD thesis title is Part 1: Formal Synthesis of a Disaccharide Repeating Unit (IdoA-
GlcN) of Heparin and Heparan Sulfate, Part 2: Concise Synthesis of ï¡-Galactosyl Ceramide
(KRN7000) and Natural Cerebroside with their Analogues. His postdoctoral appointment was at
National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan under the guidance of Prof. Chun-Cheng Lin
from August 2015 to July 2016.
In August 2016, Dr. Sawant joined Dr. Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur as
Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry. During his Assistant Professorship, he
visited Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan as Postdoctoral fellow from June 2018 to January 2019.
He is also invited to Join Bentham Publisher, Singapore, U.A.E. as “Bentham Science
Embassador” from India in the academic year 2019-2020 and is working for the same. He also
served as Co-ordinator of Phytochemistry Certificate Course at Dr. Ambedkar College,
Deekshabhoomi, Nagpur. He has 10 scientific research publications in national and international
peer reviewed journals. He has three and half years of teaching experience in UG and PG level.
He has approximately eight and half years of research experience. Dr. Sawant has guided thirty
four students for the P.G. dissertation work. During master degree, he worked on palladium
chemistry. Later his Ph.D. and postdoctoral research were focused on development of synthetic
strategies on ï¡-Galactosyl Ceramide (KRN7000), L-form sugars, lactosphingosine, and
iminosugar C-glycoside analogues.
Dr. Sawant’s research expertise is in the field of synthetic organic chemistry,
development of metal free reactions, synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients, synthesis of
small drug like molecules, carbohydrate synthesis, natural product synthesis and development of
room temperature glycosylation methods. Currently, he is working on development of metal,
metal free and microwave assisted amination of aromatic, alipatic halides and alcohols.
