About Dr. Pardeep Kumar
Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Ph.D. in Soil Science from CSK HPKV, Palampur in 1996 started his career as Assistant Scientist in the same University and continued till March, 2007. He was elevated to the position of Senior Scientist in April, 2007 where he served for six years (March, 2013). He occupied the position of Principal Scientist in April, 2013 and is serving on the same post till date. During his illustrious career of over 22 years, he has worked in different projects starting with All India Coordinated Research Project on “Tillage requirements of major Indian Soils”, then in “Soil Test Crop Response Correlation” and is presently looking after the work of “Micro and Secondary Nutrients and Pollutant Elements in Soils and Plants” since 2012. He remained instrumental in developing prescription based fertilizer recommendations for different crops of Himachal Pradesh. He did pioneer work on Secondary and Micronutrients in Himachal Pradesh. Some of the significant achievements made by him are:
? Preparation of Secondary and Micro-nutrient Atlas of Himachal Pradesh (ISBN 978-93- 5321-221-6)
? An atlas of secondary and micro nutrients of Himachal Pradesh was prepared under the AICRP on
“Micro & Secondary Nutrients and Pollutant Elements in Soils and Plants”. For the generation of data,
soil samples were collected and analysed from all the twelve districts of the state.
? Standardized management of Zn fertilizer in maize-wheat cropping system in acidic soils of Himachal
Pradesh
? Standardized management of B fertilizer in cauliflower-tomato cropping system in Kullu valley, a hub
of vegetable production in the state
? Optimized B nutrient dose for cauliflower in acidic soils of Himachal Pradesh
? Evaluated different sources of Zn and B for enhancing their use efficiency in apple, cauliflower, okra
and potato.
? Identified micronutrient efficient genotypes of maize, wheat, okra and cauliflower.
? Generated GPS based Block level fertility maps for major nutrients for Himachal Pradesh.
Beside this, Dr. Pardeep has done Five projects as Principal Investigator and Eleven as Co- Principal Investigator. He is also involved in teaching since 1998 and has taught 25 UG and PG courses of Soil Science, guided nine M.Sc. Students and presently guiding two M.Sc. and one Ph.D. student and is a Member Advisory Committee of 20 M.Sc. and 12 Ph.D. Students. He is a renowned Soil Scientist and has published more than 50 Research Papers in International and National Journals of repute, has attended more than 25 International and National Conferences / Symposia/ Conventions. His contributions were duly recognized by the University as well as ICAR and was awarded with Certificate of Appreciation by CSK HPKV, Palampur for contribution in the research project, viz. “Micro and Secondary Nutrients and pollutant Elements in Soils and Plants” as Principal Investigator which was conferred with the prestigious “Choudhary Devilal Outstanding AICRP Award-2015” and Outstanding Scientific Contributions Award by ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal for significant contribution in the field of Micronutrient’s Research in Himachal Pradesh (March 21, 2017). He has visited South Dakota State University (USA) as Research Associate-1 from January, 2018 to June, 2018 where he did excellent work on green house gas emission, nitrogen mangement and soil carbon dynamics as evidenced by his publications in Catena, Bio-Energy Research and Agronomy Journals.
