About Dr. R. Manu
I was given to understand that the young researcher’s award has been
announced by the prestigious institution, “institute of scholars”. I was extremely
pleased and enthused to apply for this particular award because all along I have
been a researcher and will continue to do so.
Researcher and family background
I come from an educated family who were ahead of their generation. The
high holding positions in the government sector of my previous generations had
created a vibrant atmosphere of “learning” in my home. I was exposed to scholarly
discussion at my home and most often discussions used to be on “societal problems
and solution”. This instilled in me a sense great inquisitiveness and facts binding
attitude. This approach become second nature in my early life. My teachers
recognized my perseverance and approach to look at the facts in different
dimensions. During parents’ meet program teachers informed my elders in my
house to encourage me to become a researcher. This gave me a direction and
mindset to become a researcher and pick up the “research career “.
My preparations of journey:
Towards the end of my high school days, my teachers had observed the
qualities in me like analytical mind, staying calm and curiosity. So, my teachers
who were research scholars (For PhD) that time, suggested my elders at home that
i should take up research as a career. I also remember my teachers had
communicated to other colleagues about my interest. I was deeply influenced by
these words of my teachers and was dreaming about making my career as a
researcher. When I moved to college, teachers were Ph.D. holders. Hence during
those days, I witnessed many deliberations and discussions on research works of
my teachers. At times, students were involved in the research deliberations. My
involvement made teachers recognize me as a quick thinker and with excellent
verbal and written skills. They also acknowledged the commitment in my
assignments. These qualities probably made my teachers to encourage me to take
up research as a career. Therefore, all along I was only nurturing the thought of
going my Ph.D. after my post-graduation.
I went to United States to have a western perspective of social research. I
was among the few lucky researchers who had an opportunity to interact with
social researchers in United States. I was recognized for my perseverance and
planned work. I learnt during my interaction with many of the senior teachers in
the United States that, a good social researcher needs to have two basic qualities
the first being the inclination to discover new facts while verifying /test old one.
And next is the passion to understand human behavior and its interaction with the
environment. Hence, I continuously try to focus on these qualities and devote
myself in this field of my interest. I was completely convinced that accuracy and
precision along with critical way of thinking can make research work more fruitful
and help the society for its upliftment.
My research work:
I am holding doctorate from from prestigious university of Mysore. I have
participated in several national and international conferences and presented papers.
I have been in the managerial committee of several conferences, published articles
in important journals including UGC CARE.
