Dr.SmrutiSmita Mohapatra is a veterinary physiologist and research scholar. Selected asChild Scientist in 12th National Children Science Congress and adorned with Master MindAward by Animal Care & Shelter Home for Animal Welfare, Preservation of Environment &Eco-System during school days, the young achiever has a knack for science and literarywriting since the beginning. Literary champion of her college, she graduated in Bachelors inVeterinary Science & Animal Husbandry with Honours from Orissa University ofAgriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar in 2014. She completed hers Masters in VeterinaryScience with specialisation in Veterinary Physiology (Hons) from Tamil Nadu University ofAnimal & Veterinary Sciences, Chennai in 2016. Her Masters dissertation on aviannutritional physiology is duly recognised in Krishikosh (E-granth), an institutional repositoryof NARES, India by ICAR-IARI, New Delhi. A veterinarian by profession, she personifiescompassion, kindness and affection. She is a strong advocate of animal welfare issues,agriculture policies, UN Sustainable Goals and global climate change. She has qualifiedICAR’s AIEEA-SRF (PGS)-2017 for PhD-2017 with AIR 3 in Animal Physiology. She hasbeen awarded with various merit scholarships during her study period. She has authored andco-authored research papers in the field of Veterinary Physiology. She has been invited asjury for various competitions. She has been awarded second prize in Innovative IdeaCompetition 2019 from DSIR–TOCIC, IIT-Kharagpur, CSIR-CGCRI and CSIR-CMERI. Apassionate science writer, she has many popular, technical articles and scientific abstracts toher credit in various animal husbandry magazines, websites and national/internationalconferences. Thus she has been included in the honourable Editorial Board of Food andScientific Reports and PashudhanPraharee. She has been honoured with Ram Singh MemorialNational Animal Welfare Excellence Award 2020 in recognition of her significant andextraordinary contribution for prevention of cruelty to animals and enhancement of animalwelfare. The former educator is an active social volunteer who has previously donated hairlocks for the benefit of cancer patients. Her writing on social issues has been featured onreputed websites and blogs. She has her own blog – ‘Smruti Way!’ where she writes on ‘Canwe talk?’. Apart from her current academic pursuits, she is the mentor of the underprivileged girl children under Call & Connect India initiative during the pandemic. She has beencovered and interviewed under ‘Women in Science and the Pandemic’ – an initiative byUNESCO considering her active engagement in STEM.
