About Dr.  Ajeeta Anand

As a researcher, I am always enthusiastic to find new solutions for the challenges inhealth and food sectors. New findings always attract me like a magnet and indulgeme to take a step forward to either improve or develop new solutions. It is alwaysfascinating to be with science and know these beautiful phenomena, happening allaround us in nature. We as human still need several innovations and development invarious sectors of science and technology related to health and food sector. Thesechallenges in health and food sector are the primary demands of growing populationthat push and drive me to contribute for the betterment of society. By keeping theseideas in mind, I pursued my career in research:

Currently, I am a researcher in Biochemistry department of CSIR-Central FoodTechnological Research Institute, Mysuru, India and working on the prevention ofHyperphosphatemia using synbiotic formulation (in vivo studies). I obtained mybachelors (B. Tech.) in Biotechnology from Amity University and masters (M. Tech.,GATE 2011) in Industrial biotechnology from NIT, Surathkal. To excel in academicsand research, I pursued PhD (Development of Synbiotic Formulation usingPhosphate Accumulating Probiotic for the Prevention of Hyperphosphatemia)in Agricultural Science, University of Tsukuba, Japan (MEXT, 2015-2018) under theesteemed guidance of Prof. Hideki Aoyagi (faculty of Life and EnvironmentalSciences, University of Tsukuba, Japan).

In my doctoral and postdoc experience, I and Prof. Hideki Aoyagi worked on theprobiotic approach to prevent hyperphosphatemia associated to renal damage. Wefound an elite probiotic that can remove phosphate from phosphate rich food veryefficiently (in vivo studies are underway). Milestones in the study were as follows: 1.Isolation of potential probiotic as phosphate accumulating organism (PAO) toprevent hyperphosphatemia (Anand et al 2019, FSTR) 2. Development of newscreening method that targets the phosphate metabolism of PAO; and thedevelopment of novel semi-quantitative single step method to isolate elite PAO(Anand et al 2019, SciReps) 3. Development of microbial phosphate estimationmethod: To remove the false positive or negative results due to diverse PAOmetabolites (Anand et al 2019, SciReps) 4. Additionally, I got the Best posteraward in Elsevier conference (Biorestec, 2018).I have also worked on the prevention of inflammatory bowel disease andcolorectal cancer by the formulation of Novel synbiotic formulation involvinggalactooligosaccharides, probiotic lactic acid bacteria and grape seed extractin CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru (2013-2015). In addition, I have also worked for theutilization of Jatropha seed cake as a protease source by the application ofAspergillus terreus CJS-127 as solid state fermenter (Anand et al 2015, Int. J.Phys. App. Sci.).

To polish my knowledge and acquire new skills, I have attended manyworkshops and presented papers in many national and international conferences. I am sure there are more milestones to come…
