About Dr. Beena Lawrence
Dr Beena Lawrence is presently working as an Assistant Professor in Botany at the
Women’s Christian College, Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu. I have over eighteen years of experience as a teacher in Plant Biology. Before joining this college, I have worked in over four colleges (both government and Aided). This exposure has made me a strong teacher with a wide view on education. Moreover my research experience, though still continuing had its footsteps in one of the prestigious institutions -University of Kerala Trivandrum-Kerala has given me much confidence in the field of Plant Biotechnology. My PhD scholars are all working in advanced fields of Plant Biology. Four of them have been awarded their PhD degree and is well settled in permanent positions in sided colleges.
In the college, I am the coordinator of the Placement cell and is also a member of the
IQAC cell. These positions has given me opportunity to guide students acquire positions in schools, IT fields and Colleges. Being an IQAC member, I am very much in uplifting my college to the forefront of academic excellence, which is shown by the college being granted the 78 th position in the NIRF ranking for 2020.
I am applying for this award with confidence of my achievements in the field of
teaching and research. Being a science teacher I was able to inculcate curiosity among my students not only in the field of Plant Science but also in General matters of every day, by organising E-Quizzes. My student centred approach in teaching and research is very much clear from the feedback my students have given me.
I strongly agree with the words of Alice Wellington Rollins-
“ The test of a good teacher is not the how many questions the teacher asks the
pupils and they answers, but how many questions the pupils ask and the teacher finds it hard to answer”
