About Dr. Jaipal Singh Choudhary

Jaipal S. Choudhary, contributed significantly on climate change impact studies on insect pests and population genetics of insect pests for formulating wide area management strategies in India.
He has developed several insect phenology based simulation and statistical models for risk assessment and forewarning of insect pests under different climatic conditions. He also has determined the genetic diversity, population genetics and demographic history among the Indian population of economically important pests viz., Bactrocera dorsalis, Bactrocera zonata (Diptera: Tephritidae), Pectinophora gossypiella and Amritodus atkinsoni of mango, cotton etc. for planning of better management tactics. Choudhary and his team has developed and validated
cultivable gut bacteria based female biased fruit fly bait trapping concept for management of peach fruit fly, Bactrocera zonata. He is also credited the complete mitochondrial sequencing of peach fruit fly, Bactrocera zonata and mango hopper, Idioscopus nitidulus from India, first time in world. Developed over 200 DNA barcodes and unique mitochondrial haplotype sequences of different insect species and submitted in international and national level gene bank repositories. Choudhary and his team first time reported egg parasitoids, Anastatus bangalorensis and
Anastatus acherontiae of litchi stink bug and the entomopathogenic fungus viz. Hirsutella sp. on mango hopper, Idioscopus clypealis. He and his team conceptualized and developed two user friendly mobile apps ‘Aam ki Surksha’ and ‘Climate Smart Mango Cultivation’ for mango pests forewarning and management practices suggestions. He has published 40 research papers with NAAS score ranges from 5.0 to 10.01 (22 research paper with NAAS score ≥6.0). On these scientific contributions, Choudhary have been awarded with “Young Scientist award” by professional society and selected “International examiner” by Macquarie University, Australia
for thesis evaluation.
