About: Penilop P.S.
Penilop P.S. is a scientist in Digital Signal Processing Division of Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research-Centre for Electromagnetics (SAMEER-CEM), Chennai, an Autonomous R and D institute under Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in the field of design and development of baseband systems with OFDM, Cognitive Radio and MIMO technologies for wireless communication applications. Serving as Project Leader/Member of various sponsored projects to industry, in-house R and D, government bodies, defence sector. She is engaged with novel technology development, knowledge base generation, preparation of know-how documents, etc. She is also involved in other important tasks such as creation, maintenance and upkeep of new facilities, interacting with industry visitors/students, organizing training programmes for practicing engineers. She officially guides postgraduate students and participates in international/national conferences, workshops and delivers keynote/invited lectures. Serving as a member of Society of EMC Engineers (India). Her research and project activities are focused towards the development of OFDM/NC-OFDM for Cognitive Radio and MIMO-OFDM for high throughput applications. The development of customised NC-OFDM transceiver link and its implementation on the Zynq-7000 System-on-Chip (SoC) 7Z020 with radio-frequency front-end board, AD-FMCOMMS3-EBZ Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform for the effective utilization of the spectrum and to optimize the hardware with reconfigurability. Simulation and implementation of spectrum shaping on the hardware and optimized hardware resource utilisation of Zynq platform are analysed and verified. Developed the MIMO-OFDM based baseband system using the model based design, HDL optimized codes are generated and implemented on the FPGA based SDR platforms. The system uses encryption for reliable and robust transmission for e-Health applications. The poster presentation of this work was adjudged as the second best poster for the Young Scientist’s Conference, India International Science Festival (IISF)-2019, Kolkata. Due to her deep passion for research and desire for learning, she has successfully incorporated many new ideas in projects, customized and miniaturized power supplies are developed and incorporated in order to qualify the projects for stringent environmental tests, making these systems unique and useful for Industrial R and D defense sectors.
