About Dr. Indranil Chakrabarti


A teacher of pathology par excellence, Dr Indranil Chakrabarti, has been teaching the nuances and the beauty of the world under microscope to the undergraduate and postgraduate students of Pathology, the students of nursing, dentistry and lab technicians for 12 years. Presently working as Associate Professor in Department of Pathology, North Bengal Medical College, West Bengal, he has guided the residents of various disciplines in their dissertations and mentored them for presentations in national and international arena and guided them through their projects.
A role model in teaching and research, he has 68 publications in national and international journals and has been the editorial board member of various national and international journals. He is a contributor to the largest web resource on Pathology, Pathologyoutlines.com and a regular reviewer of international journals including Diagnostic Cytology, Cytojournal and BMJ- Case reports. He is mentoring young pathologists and science graduates working as the Indian Ambassador of European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) and United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) thus facilitating research in pathology and cancer diagnostics and treatment. He has received the Fellowship of International Academy of Cytology (FIAC) from International Academy of Cytology and also been honored with the Fellowship in Cytopathology by the Indian Academy of Cytologists. He regularly contributes cases and interacts with worldwide peers and students through social media like Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp etc. His research interests include cytology and core needle biopsy, dermatopathology, neuropathology, Gastrointestinal pathology, Gynecopathology as well as oncopathology. He is an indispensable member of the Medical Education Unit (MEU) of his institute and works as a educator/facilitator in the Faculty development programs related to medical education. He is the backbone of the integrated teaching sessions done for the undergraduate students and holds several administrative positions in his institute and academic societies. Working as a Quality manager in his department, he is involved in hands-on training and education of laboratory technologists and promotes safe laboratory practices. He is also serving as the Administrative and Operational Head of the Central Clinical Laboratory of North Bengal Medical College. A deft administrator, he has conducted state and national level workshops on Liquid based cytology, dermatopathology, immunohistochemistry, hematology and also organized conferences in the capacity of organizing secretary. He has been invited and has delivered lectures as guest speakers in several national and international conferences thus spreading the awareness and magic of this wonderful subject. He has published extensively on biosafety and COVID-19 and has been a part in the national biosafety guidelines published by Indian Association of Pathologist and Microbiologists (IAPM) and Indian Academy of Cytologists (IAC) which are followed in diagnostic laboratories throughout India
