About Gaurav Verma

Gaurav Verma is presently a PhD research scholar at Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, IIT Roorkee. His area of interest include IoT, Li-Fi, Image processing, Hardware implementation on FPGA, Deep learning, Spintronics, Neuromorphic computing, Spiking and non-spiking neural networks. He has 11 publications till date in various journals and conferences. He has cleared prestigious exams including JEE Mains, GATE, UGC NET, all in first attempts with self-preparation. He has completed two government projects one each during his masters and bachelor degree courses. Gaurav is associated as technical advisor in Softpro India Computer Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Lucknow from past 4 years. He is also one of the founding team member of startup named “Nation Innovation”. Originally from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, Gaurav grew up in a lovable joint family. I was always a studious one since childhood and an obedient student throughout my school. My family, teachers and friends always supported me to keep the passion for learning and teaching throughout my journey. I did well in school, from inter branch competitions to the academic results. Looking back, I’m sure I was quite smug, although I didn’t realize it at the time. The best thing I learnt from the beginning is being workaholic. After schooling, I went for a central government institute Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences affiliated under University of Delhi upon qualifying JEE Mains and Advance Exam in 2013. I joined for Bachelors program in Electronics science. In college, I was involved in few outside activities including cricket and departmental cultural activities. The four years during college developed the passion in electronics domain including robotics, software and hardware tools. My professors and collegues always motivated and provided opportunities to develop my skills. I completed many projects during my coursework and won many academic awards. The government project of one year duration was based on design and development of Microbial Fuel Cells for clean energy generation under the Green Energy initiative by Government of India. My hunger for knowledge and determination to turn skills into action contributed to the achievement of college award “Deepika Wangaroo Award” for my graduation course. I also cleared GATE exam in the first attempt in 2017 by self-preparation. Even having a few decent job opportunities after college, I was clear that I have to pursue higher education and add on to my skillset. With the GATE scorecard, I applied for various colleges and got admission offers from many universities and I finally joined Centre of Development of Advance Computing (CDAC) in Mohali for my master’s course specialization in VLSI design. During the two years of master’s degree, I developed the keen interest in hardware implementation of algorithms, hardware description languages, EDA tools, FPGAs. CDAC also helped to improve my teaching skills as I was offered a role for trainer of batch comprising of 23 students on the topic Verilog coding and FPGA implementation. During my thesis, I was selected for a project on crop disease detection by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. I cleared UGC Net and JRF in December 2018 with 99.997 percentile in Electronic Science subject. I applied for PhD in various IITs and gave interviews in six IITs from which I got selected in IIT Indore and IIT Roorkee. I joined IIT Roorkee for PhD and presently I am a second year PhD research scholar of the institute. I am working on various projects along with my research work. I am glad to receive this award from InSC and I hope to continue at a good pace towards my goals. I am sharing the links for my contact as being socially connected to persons is a key passion of mine apart from research. “This is just a beginning, a stepping stone in the beautiful journey ahead” Thanks
