About Kirti Parwani

My name is Kirti Parwani and I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. Palash Mandal at Department of Biological Sciences, P. D. Patel Institute of Applied Sciences, Charotar University of Science and Technology, located at Changa at Anand district in the state of Gujarat. I am working towards understanding the role of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in the progression of diabetic nephropathy and also we at our laboratory are working towards identification of inhibitors that can limit the formation of AGEs. I did my M.Sc. from the department of biochemistry, The M. S. University of Baroda, Vadodara (2009-2011). In my M.Sc. dissertation, I worked for understanding the role of a phytochemical in the neogenesis of pancreatic β cells. I qualified CSIR-NET- LS in 2010. During my Ph.D. I have used various techniques and have learnt column chromatography for isolation of compounds from plant extracts, HPLC, and other techniques like LC-MS and FT-IR for characterization of the molecules. I have gained expertise in real time PCR, cell culture techniques and animal handling during my Ph.D. along with protein workflow. While doing my Ph.D., I have presented my work at various platforms including a poster presentation at Houston, Texas, USA for which I also received the DBT- international travel grant in October 2018. After my Ph.D. I plan to carry out further research in understanding the cross talk between various metabolic diseases and understanding the role of various pathways which corroborate the precipitation of the disease. I am thankful to Institute of Scholars, for providing me with the award which has further motivated me for doing better research.
