About Dr. Shailendra Pratap Singh
Currently, I am an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering Central UniversityRajasthan. I worked as a Research Scientist at New York Medical College, New York, USA. My research is focused to find a new target for Metabolic syndrome (MetS). Mets is a constellation of risk factors for cardiovascular (CV) disease that includes obesity, hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance, and hypertension. Mets doubles the risk of cardiovascular disease, more than triples the risk of cardiovascular mortality and raises the risk of type 2 diabetes by about fivefold. The prevalence of the metabolic syndrome is increasing to epidemic proportions not only in the U.S. and in the urbanized world but also in developing countries. It affects about 34 percent of adults in the U.S. and 20 to 30 percent of the adult population in most countries. Obesity-related insulin resistance as primary health risk factors for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease is the main research focus to date. Skeletal muscle plays a dominant role in glucose control. Most recently, growing interest in NAFLD/NASH has emerged as a leading global cause of chronic liver disease in the past few decades. Despite a growing prevalence, the factors influencing NAFLD development and subsequent progression to NASH, liver fibrosis, cirrhosis are poorly understood.
