About  Dr. Anusha Taarinie Jha

Dr. Anusha Taarinie Jha is an alumnus of Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal. She completed her secondary education from Sanskriti School in New Delhi. She passed her board exams with 95% aggregate and completed her MBBS from KMC Manipal in 2020. Stumbling into uncharted territory became a decision that impacted Anusha’s undergraduate life immensely. She started her first research project in the 3rd semester of MBBS, completely oblivious to the fact that research was going to be something that would shape her for years to come. The result? At the end of her undergraduate years, she had quite a few publications and conference presentations to her credit, amidst the many feathers in her hat! Her first research project was titled-’ Biochemical Profile of Neonates with Seizures’, for which she won the 3rd prize in a college conference, Conventus in 2015. She was awarded a grant by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in 2016, for a research which was based on awareness regarding infection control practices in the hospital. She then won the 1st prize for her case report based on a rare presentation of mucormycosis of the neck at the Manipal Infectious Disease Colloquium in 2017. Anusha received the DST-DFG award for attending the 68th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Physiology and Medicine, held in Lindau, Germany in June 2018. She met eminent Nobel Laureates at the meeting, notably Robert Warren and Louis Ignarro, who discovered Helicobacter pylori and the properties of nitric oxide, respectively. She was also a speaker and panelist at the Indo German Convention of Lindau Alumni (IGCLA) 2018. Anusha was selected to attend the Asia Pacific Regional Meeting, held in Hong Kong in June 2019. She was part of the Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health Including HIV and AIDS (SCORA), where she presented a poster on breast cancer awareness. She was only Indian medical student selected to do a clinical elective in Endocrinology at the National Insititute of Health (NIH), in Maryland, USA in October 2019. NIH is a premier research institute which has funded 160 Nobel Laureates till date. She worked with world renowned clinician-scientists at the NIH, notably Dr Constantine Stratakis who discovered the genetic defects leading to the Carney complex. To top it off, she is an avid Model United Nations (MUN) enthusiast and won prizes for 3 consecutive years at the Summit Manipal MUN. She was awarded a Special Mention, Best Delegate and High Commendation in 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively. She is a 7th Grade certified Trinity Guildhall pianist and has uploaded videos showcasing her talent on YouTube as well!
