About Lovlesh Thakur
My Primary Research Focus On The Infection Biology Of Parasitic Diseases Targeting The Epidemiology And Pathogenesis Of Infectious Diseases. During My Phd, I Worked On Host-Pathogen Interaction Of Parasitic Disease Leishmaniasis. Leishmaniasis Is One Of The Neglected Tropical Parasite Diseases That Continue To Be Prevalent In Endemic Areas Despite Well-Charted Elimination Programmes. Leishmaniasis Is Continuously Expanding Horizons To Newer Non Endemic Areas With Emergence Of Parasite Driven Atypical Leishmaniasis. In This Regard,I Explored The Molecular Biology Of Emergence Of Novel Parasite Variant That Cause Atypical Leishmaniasis In Himachal Pradesh. Significance Of Parasite Variants In Driving Biology Of Clinical Outcome Of The Disease Is Further Discussed In Terms Of Altered Parasite Determinants Based On Gene Specific And Whole Genome Sequencing Studies Of Parasite Isolates From Known And Newer Endemic Areas Over The Globe. Disease Outcome Is Governed By A Complex Interplay Between Pathogen And Host Immunology. Therefore, Human And Murine Host Immune-Biology Was Explored During Disease Condition. Parasite Driven Host Immune Changes Were Addressed. The Cross-Talk Between Peripheral Blood And Thymic Architectural Changes During Disease Was Elucidated. I Have Hands-On On Handling And Experimenting In-Vivo Mice Models; And Techniques Such As Qrt-PCR, ELISA, Flow Cytometry, Immuno-Histochemistry Of Frozen Tissue Sections Etc. I Have A Good Hand On Tissue Culture Experimental Procedures Such As Handling Both Suspension And Adherent Cell Lines, Passage Maintenance And Related Down-Stream Experiments. My Interest Lies In Understanding The Parasite Specific Pathways/ Biomarkers, Those Can Be Targeted To Early Infection Diagnosis, Treat The Infected Patients Or Stop The Spread Of Infection At Early Stage. This Approach Can Be Used To Cure Related Diseases Such As Malaria, Trypanosomiasis Etc. I Believe That, In-Depth Knowledge Of A Disease Can Be Used As Future Therapies Of Other Parasitic Diseases.
