About Dr. Rakesh Kumar
Dr Rakesh Kumar employed as a scientist (ARS) in Division of Animal and Fisheries Sciences of ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Meghalaya. I completed my graduation (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) from G.B.P.U.A&T (Pantnagar), Uttarakhand, in 2010 and MVSc (Animal Genetics & Breeding) from ICAR-IVRI (ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute) in 2012. I completed Ph.D (Animal Genetics & Breeding) from ICAR-NDRI (ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute) in 2015. I was awarded with ICAR-SRF and ICMR-JRF during the Ph.D program. I worked as Teaching Associate at Ranchi Veterinary College, Ranchi, Jharkhand for 6 months. I also worked as Scientist (Animal Science) at Regional Research Station (Punjab Agricultural University), Ballowal Saunkhri, Punjab for 2.1 years. I was selected as scientist (ARS) in the discipline of Animal Genetics & Breeding through ASRB and posted at Division of livestock production at ICAR-RC-NEH, Umiam, Meghalaya, since October 2018. My research area is on sperm mediated gene transfer in goat and identification of polymorphisms in genes related with economic traits in livestock. Our innovative research has resulted in published in several papers, popular articles, training manuals in the journal of national and international repute. In addition, I am a life member of several societies (Society for Agriculture Innovation and Development, Society for Conservation of Domestic Animal Biodiversity, Indian Society of Hill Farming etc.) as well as an Editorial Board member of the following Journals: EC Veterinary sciences, ACTA SCIENTIFIC and Animal and Veterinary Sciences.
