About Dr. Santosh Kumar


Dr. Santosh Kumar is presently working as Senior Scientist, Plant Breeding in the Division of Crop Research in ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, Bihar. He has done B.Sc (Agriculture) from Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi and M.Sc (2005) and Ph.D (2009) from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. He has more than 11 years of research experience in the field of plant breeding with specialization to rice breeding for abiotic stress, characterization and evaluation of wheat germplasm for terminal heat and drought conditions and plant genetic resources management. Dr. Kumar has taken lead in development of three rice varieties (Swarna Shreya, Swarna Shakti Dhan and Swarna Samriddhi Dhan) for water scarcity areas. He has also significantly contributed in development of other three rice varieties (CR Dhan 801, Sabour Harshit Dhan and Sabour Samppanna Dhan) and two faba bean varieties (Swarna Gaurav and Swarna Suraksha). Dr. Kumar has participated and presented his research work at various national and international forums. He has also profound interest in extension activities and has participated and organized many frontline demonstrations (FLDs), farmers’ training and field days programme. He has been bestowed with many recognition and awards (Young Scientist, Scientist of the Year, Young Scientist Associate Award) by different societies. He has also taken lead in national (AICRIP-Rice), and International (STRASA, IRRAS, ICAR-IRRI projects funded by BMGF and IRRI) projects. Dr. Kumar has more than 125 publications in the form of research papers in international and national journals, books, book chapters, technical bulletins, training manual and popular articles to his credit.
