About Dr. Meenu Singh
I am a passionate and focused nutrition researcher with a doctoral degree in Foods and Nutrition from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara and Post-doctoral in Human Nutrition, St. John’s Research Institute, Bangalore. Presently, working as a Nutrition Consultant with Vital Strategies-a global public health organization and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). In past, have worked with St. John’s Research Institute, Population Council, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and UNICEF. It has been almost a decade of working on nutritional and clinical strategies that helps in reducing the incidence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). My present role focuses on nutritional approaches to reduce NCDs which includes elimination of trans fat and reduction of fat, sugar and salt/sodium in foods. It involves providing trainings, developing technically rich content on nutrition and health for research proposals, research articles, websites, books, videos, and other information education and communication (IEC) material; working with various stakeholders (government, private organizations, industries, consumers, etc), for policy, advocacy, food surveys and campaigning through various social media platforms. On the clinical front, my work involved understanding the human body composition (lean and fat mass, etc) using anthropometry, total body potassium (TBK) using WBPC, air displacement plethysmography (ADP) using Pea Pod and stable isotope (Dueterium). Additionally, my expertise includes food composition, laboratory techniques to estimate nutritional components of food, food labelling, nutrition/food laws, consumer studies, diet surveys and intervention strategies to curb NCDs. My research work has been published in several national and international journals and leading Indian newspapers. My research work has also been recognized at various platforms in India and abroad. Of the many, the most notable is the Urakami Foundation Award at the 12th Asian Congress of Nutrition, Yokohama, Japan for her contribution in research in Food Science and Nutrition. I have been invited as an expert for delivering lectures and webinars by several prestigious institutes. Currently, I am a member of International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Indian Dietetics Association (IDA), Nutrition Society of India (NSI) and Home Science Association of India (HSAI). With the aim to improve food and health ecosystem, in future I plan to work towards creating a healthy food environment by connecting the dots from farm to fork, i.e. agriculture, food supply chains, food consumption and health.
