About Dr. Janhavi Ashish Arekar
I, Dr. Janhavi Ashish Arekar take immense pleasure to be a member of Institute of Science (InSc) and it’s my honor to receive the Research Excellence Award 2020-21. I see myself as a dedicated budding researcher concerned with exploring traditional knowledge of various plant species and its therapeutic potentials for application in the field of herbal medicine. I have completed my graduation in Botany (Horticulture and Gardening) from DSPM’s K. V. Pendharkar College, Dombivali affiliated to University of Mumbai, MH-India in 2000. After that I pursued my Post graduation (year 2003) and Ph. D. (year 2007) in Botany from KET’s V. G. Vaze College, Mulund affiliated to University of Mumbai, MH-India. The doctoral research work consists of exploring various bioactive compounds of Momordica Spp. and standardization of Tissue culture protocols for the same Spp. During my M.Sc. and Ph. D. Course I got an opportunity to work with eminent scientist, scientific advisor of SRC late Dr. M. R. Heble, Dr. G. T Paratkar (My Research Guide) and Dr. S. S. Barve, Director of SRC, Mulund. I am thankful to my mentor Dr. G. T. Paratkar who provided me a valuable opportunity to work with such esteemed research group and also promote me to work as research trainee in Bhabha Atomic Research Center Molecular Biology and Agriculture division, Trombay, MH-India; National AIDS Research Institute, Pune, Bhosari MIDC India; Nicholas Piramal Research Center, Goregaon MH- India; Anchrom Training Center for HPTLC,Mulund – 81, MH- India; Clinical Research Centre of Ramnarain Ruia College, Matunga, Mumbai, MH- India. With a teaching experience of 12 years in KET’s V. G. Vaze College, Mulund and GES’s N. B. Mehta College, Bordi, currently I am working as Assistant Professor and Head of the Botany Department in LCSCT’s Smt. Devkiba Mohansinhji Chauhan College of Commerce and Science, Silvassa- UT of DNH and DD affiliated to University of Mumbai. I got an opportunity to work as co-investigator and principal investigator on Minor Research Projects funded by University of Mumbai and UGC. I have attended and presented papers in more than 15 national and International conferences and 8 national and International publications on my credit. I have also worked as resource person for various short term courses such as Food Production and Processing, Plant molecular biology and Plant tissue culture techniques. I have been fortunate to be an active trainer for professionals on ‘Industrial setup for plant tissue culture and green house technology’ organized by Bombay small scale industrial association training centre, Mumbai. I have been invited as jury member for District level science exhibition and resource person for ‘Jidnyasa’ training program organized by Marathi Vidnyan Parishad. I work as editorial board member, Associate editor and Review member of International Journals. Recently I have invited as key speaker in National webinar organized by Ramnarin Ruia College, Mulund on topic ‘Covid-19 Prevention is better than cure’. Hopefully I will continue my research in ethnopharmacognosy and plant biotechnology to bring out fruitful results and will be able to leave positive impact of my research on community.
