About Dr. Devbhadra V. Shah


Dr. Devbhadra V. Shah is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat and has the total UG and PG teaching experience of 30 years. He received the Ph.D. degree in 1997 from South Gujarat University, Surat and his research interests include the study of Fibonacci numbers and its generalizations, diophantine equations, partition theory and recreational mathematics. Dr. Shah has successfully supervised 7 students for the Ph.D. degree and 8 students for the M.Phil. Degree. At present 5 students are pursuing for their Ph.D. degree under his guidance. He is also rendering service as the coordinator of the Startup and Entrepreneurship Council of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat. At present, Dr. Shah is serving as the Co-editor and the Reviewer of 6 International and National level research journals. He has published 60 research papers in international and national level journals and has co-authored / edited 6 books. He has also written 30 articles on various topics in Pedagogical Journals. Dr. Shah has served on the various state and national level academic committees. He has also served as a resource person in the preparation of Fundamental Glossary of Mathematics by Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, Ministry of HRD, Government of India. He was also the resource person for the Common curriculum development committee for mathematics for the colleges of Gujarat state organized by the Department of Education, Gujarat State. Dr. Shah has made a significant contribution to the popularization of mathematics in Gujarat by giving talks on popular nature. He has delivered more than 100 popular / technical lectures at various International / National / State level conferences, seminars and workshops on various topics in mathematics at various academic institutions across the country. He has also served as the convener of several conferences and workshops and he is rendering service as the regional coordinator of many national and state level mathematics competitions. He also worked as the resource person for institutions like BISAG, IGNOU, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Open University, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Vikram Sarabhai Community Science Centre.  Dr. Shah was the Secretary of Gujarat Ganit Mandal for 9 years and has received a number of awards which includes Shikshan Ratna Award, Prof. A. R. Rao Award for Mathematics Education and Popularization and Prof. B. N. Vyas Prize for the best article. He was also a chairman of Board of Studies in mathematics of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat. He is a member of many national professional bodies. In 2012, Dr. Shah established the Mathematics Club with the aim of popularizing mathematics in Gujarat and worked as a Chief Editor of Mαthematics Newsletter, whose first issue was presented to Shri. Narendra Modi, who was the chief minister of Gujarat at that time.
