About Dr. Sonali Kar

Dr. Sonali Kar working as Scientist in All India Coordinated Rice Improvement Project (AICRIP) at S.G College of Agriculture and Research Station, Jagdalpur. I completed my masters degree from Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), Raipur in 2010 and PhD from Birsa Agricultural University (BAU), Ranchi during 2014 in Genetics and Plant Breeding. I have published 17 research papers, 13 research abstracts, 5 articles and attended 13 national and international workshops and seminars. I received more than 10 awards in my professional career of 6 years. I have 12 years of experience in research related to rice breeding which include identification of QTLs for Brown Plant hopper tolerance in rice may reduce the yield losses and contribute to food security, developing drought tolerant rice cultivars useful in the climate change scenario and developing suitable rice varieties for upland ecology. The major theme of research in rice breeding is to develop high yielding direct seeded rice to manage the existing resources skillfully in future. I am also a lifetime member of Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding. I had opportunity to work in collaboration with institutes such as NRCPB (National Research Centre for Plant Biotechnology), IARI, New Delhi, NRRI (National Rice Research Institute), Cuttack, Odisha and IIRR (Indian Institute of Rice Research), Hyderabad, Telangana.
