About Marykutty Abraham

I have completed my Ph. D thesis on “Assessment of Effectiveness of Artificial Recharge Structures using Groundwater Models” from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India. In the doctoral work I have developed numerical models for groundwater flow and contaminant transport to study the effectiveness of various artificial recharge structures individually and in various combinations. My M.E thesis was related to Evapotranspiration and I have carried out lot of field experiments which gave me a flair for experimental work. I have also done a P.G Diploma course in Ecology and Environment which helped me to be interested in environmental aspects. I had undergone various short-term trainings related to Environmental and water resources Engineering. I was actively involved in research projects of Environmental and Water Resources Engineering division of Civil Engineering Department of IIT Madras; Department of Soil survey and Soil Conservation, Government of Kerala; and Centre for Water Research, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai which helped me in data collection, data analysis, modelling and drawing conclusions from the study. Presently I am working as Scientist in the center fore Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. I am involved in preparation of research proposals and implementation of the projects. We are carrying out projects related to drainage studies, groundwater hydrology, surface water hydrology, and recharge studies funded from Department of Science and Technology, Central Groundwater Board etc. We are using software such as Modflow, MT3D, Arc-GIS etc. for our research projects. We also organize faculty development programs and famers workshops.
