About Dr. Sreejata Biswas


Dr. Sreejata Biswas, M.Sc. (Gold Medalist), B. Ed. (First Class First), Ph.D., is presently working as Associate Professor in Zoology in Bangabasi Morning College, Kolkata. She is a proud recipient of the National Scholarship that she received twice for her academic excellence. Dr. Biswas has published three text books with ISBN for undergraduate students of Zoology under the newly introduced CBCS curriculum of UGC. She has also authored one reference book and edited two books of international standard. She has published a number of research articles in national and international journals of repute and presented research papers in seminars and conferences. She has organised UGC sponsored national and state level seminar as Convenor and Organising Secretary respectively and also worked as Session Coordinator in international seminar. Dr. Sreejata Biswas, an academician and scholar, has also proved herself to be a leader. Dr. Biswas joined the institution in 2001 and till December, 2020 acted as the Head of the Department of Zoology. During this journey of twenty years as an educator she had been continuously nurturing her students to bring out the best in them. She has guided departmental students in a number of project works and field works that include ‘Monitoring Blood Pressure before, during and after Diwali to observe the effects of Noise pollution’, ‘Behaviour study of animals in captivity’, ‘Biodiversity Study in various forests and sea beaches’, ‘Assessment and Biodiversity Audit of Avifauna at different habitats’, ‘Water Quality Parameter Testing in different water bodies’ and many others. Outcome of a project on ‘Relative abundance and market price of selected indigenous food fishes in Kolkata and adjacent areas’ was presented in West Bengal State Science and Technology Congress in February 2014. The report was also published in the Abstract Volume. She has also successfully completed a UGC funded research project on the broad area of Environmental Remediation of Saline Soil of Sunderbans by Use of Earthworms. Dr. Biswas has conducted various Popularization Programmes on issues related to environment and biodiversity. She has arranged awareness camps on health related issues like thalassemia, diabetes and stress management. She has also conducted life science hobby camp for school children in Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Kolkata. Dr. Biswas writes articles in college magazine and other registered magazines on health and environmental awareness. She has delivered popular lectures on emergent issues like water crisis, climate change, environmental pollution etc. in schools, colleges and NGOs. Her contribution as a science teacher to the society at large is commendable.
