About Farhana Hoque
Ms. Farhana Hoque is presently working as a Scientist at Regional Research Centre-Rahara, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture. She obtained Gold Medal for her Bachelor degree in Fishery Sciences. She stood First class first in her Master degree programme and was awarded the prestigious DST-INSPIRE Fellowship for pursuing her doctoral degree from West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences. Her subject of specialisation is Fish Health Management. She qualified National Eligibility Test (NET) and Agriculture Research Service (ARS) in 2014. She has more than 10 research papers to her credit. She is the recipient of ‘Alltech Young Scientist Award-2014” for her Master Degree thesis. She has received ‘Best Oral Presentation Award’ in the National Conference on “Challenges in Biodiversity and Resource Management” from University of Kalyani and West Bengal Biodiversity Board in 2013. She has attended many National workshop and training programme on ‘Molecular Biotechnology’ and ‘Fish Cell Culture’. Her study of interest is the biological control of fish diseases and their application in aquaculture. In lien of negative impacts of antibiotics, Ms. Farhana Hoque has isolated, identified and characterised fish skin mucus borne antagonistic bacterium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa to be used as a new probiotic for future commercialization to reduce disease outbreak caused by Aeromonas hydrophila in Labeo rohita, which has been described in this paper.
