About Sunayana Gupta

Ms Sunayana Gupta, an alumna of Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai is an accomplished educator with more than 27 years of work experience. She has an illustrious career of teaching- learning in some of the reputed schools of Delhi and other states too. Winner of the “Best Teacher” Award for two consecutive years by BhartiyaShikshaParishad and Guru Dronacharya Award respectively, she firmly believes that academics as well as co-curricular activities must go hand-in-hand and has herself been a National level Table- Tennis player.

According to her, real education should help one discover one’s inner strengths. It should result in enlightened visionaries that have the courage and wisdom to lead the change required. The way ‘forward’ is actually the way ‘within’. She has been associated to Blind School on personal and professional level, taking children to the blind school in order to teach them the most humanly quality of empathy. The students on regular basis had a kind of Cultural Exchange with children of the Blind School, VikasPuri and also celebrated various festivals with them.

She penned her thoughts in an article for the Indian Express ‘To Teach is to Inspire’ stating that the most important factor governing a student's learning is dependent on the relationship he shares with his teacher(s). Taking up this profession means taking up responsibility of many young children. It requires devoting listening ears and a compassionate heart to the students. Empathy is an indispensable quality for all teachers to possess. Besides IQ, it is very important for teachers to understand every student's EQ (Emotional Quotient) as well. The mutual admiration between Krishna and Arjun is one of the most beautiful examples of how eternal this bond can be, how the beautiful relationship of a mentor and a mentee is nurtured.

A team player, she believes in Patrick Lencioni words "Teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability."

Ms Sunayana Gupta is a keen learner and believes that we all at every stage need to learn, unlearn and relearn. Around fifty years ago the 3 Rs – Reading, Writing and Arithmetic were the essentials of literacy but today as Alvin Toffler said, “The illiterates of the 21century will not be those who cannot read and write but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.” This process can only take place when knowledge gained is transformed to develop skills of problem solving, critical thinking, creativity and collaborative learning.

Ms. Gupta has been an ISA (International School Award, accredited by the British Council) Coordinator for various schools that she worked in and also facilitated various International Exchange Programmes for the students as she feels that it is extremely important for the children to accept and respect diversity so that they can overcome the problems like environmental degradation, global warming, food shortages, terrorism and human trafficking that are staring us in the face. It is important for the children to inculcate attitudes and principles that will make him/ her a contributing citizen of the international community. She is passionate about improving learning outcomes and life skills through well-rounded quality education.

With strong belief in Collaborative learning, She has done a Core Skill course on Effective Communication and Collaboration from the British Council.

She is a team player and thus undertook a workshop on ‘ Building and sustaining effective teams’ conducted by the British Council.

Yes, eagles we are not, but we can still fly. Our aspirations become our wings. So let our aspirations take us beyond each horizon for there is yet another new world waiting to be discovered.
