ï‚· Dr. Deepak Sharma is currently working as Principal Scientist & Liaison Officer at Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur-492012 (C.G.). He is a rice breeder and had more than 30 years‟ research experience in field of agricultural sciences/ plant breeding/crop Improvement/IPR/ ï‚· He has developed two hybrid rice of Chhattisgarh viz., Indira Sona and Chhattisgarh Rice Hybrid2 and first rice mutant of Chhattisgarh (Trombay Chhattisgarh Dubraj Mutant-1). He was the team member for developing 14 rice varieties for Chhattisgarh state.  ï‚· He has handled/ handling more than 12 research projects for improvement of rice crop and agrobiodiversity conservation and management. ï‚· He has published more than 100 research papers, >150 popular articles, >200 abstracts, >20 manuals/ catalogues, >30 folders, >30 Doordarshan talk, >40 Radio talk during his academic career.  ï‚· Total 10 Ph.D. students and 30 M.Sc. students were completed their research under his guidance. ï‚· He is working for revival and mainstreaming of traditional rice landraces of Chhattisgarh state through radiation based induce mutagenesis in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai and Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore and Bioversity International, India, New Delhi. He is doing work for improvement of traditional rice varieties of Chhattisgarh through induced mutagenesis since last 8 years. One rice mutant variety “TCDM-1” has been released and one mutant Vikram-TCR is under the process of release by SVRC for Chhattisgarh state. Six rice mutants are state and national multilocation trials. More than 48 indigenous rice varieties have been irradiated with gamma rays/ electron beam for their improvement. Out of them, 13 stable mutants are under evaluation and testing stage.  ï‚· He has done excellent work for collection, conservation and registration of farmers‟ varieties of Chhattisgarh under the PPV&FRA. He is continuously working on this field since last 12 years. He has submitted more than 2000 application forms of farmers‟ varieties to PPV&FRA in which 1527 varieties were registered. Total 465 registration certificate have been issued by PPV&FRA. He was the felicitator for total 13 Plant Genome Savior Awards given to the farmers‟ and farmers‟ community. One premium rice variety „Jeeraphool‟ got geographical indication for Sarguja region of Chhattisgarh under his felicitation. Another GI application for Nagri Dubraj variety of Dhamtari region has been submitted and under evaluation stage. He has organized more than 70 training cum awareness programme on PPV&FRA in entire Chhattisgarh. He has identified several farmers‟ communities and progressive farmers in Chhattisgarh state.
