About Dr. Sanjib Kr Paul
Dr. Sanjib Kr Paul was born on 19th September 1987 in Agomani, a small town of Dhubri district in
the state of Assam in India. He did his early schooling from his native village and completed Higher
Secondary (10+2) from Agomani Higher Secondary School in the year 2005. He completed his
Bachelors (Honours/Major) in Biological Sciences from B N College, Dhubri under Gauhati
University, Assam with 1st class (Distinction) in the year 2008. Further, he pursued his Masters in
Food Processing Technology from Tezpur University (Central) during the year 2008-10 followed by
PhD in Agricultural Engineering (Food Process Engineering) from Assam University (Central),
Silchar during the year 2012-2018.
He qualified Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in 2010 with Food Technology as a
subject in Engineering Sciences (XE) stream for MHRD, Govt of India Fellowship. He was also
awarded with UGC-Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) through the UGC-NET examination in 2012.
He started his professional career as a Technical Assistant in the Department of Agricultural
Engineering of Assam University, Silchar. During his service as a TA, he was actively involved in
academic and research activities like- up-gradation of practical course syllabi, lab facility creation,
innovation and introduction of new courses. He played a key role in introducing Bachelor of Vocation
(B. Voc) programme in Food Processing in Assam University. In 2016, Dr. Paul joined in Indian
Patent Office as Examiner of Patents and Designs under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry,
Govt of India. As Patent Examiner, he carried out the formal, scientific and legal examination of
patent applications belonging to Biotechnology and allied sciences, issuing First Examination Report
(FER), handling amended applications, assisting Controllers in hearing and decision
making process. He was also involved in RMID activities and assigning IPCs to the patent
applications. For his capabilities and performance, he received several appreciation letters from
CGPDTM< Ministry>
He is well acquainted with different intellectual property rights (IPR) as in addition to on job full-time
classroom and hands-on training for Patent Examiners at RGNIIPM, Nagpur and IPO, Kolkata; he
also underwent various courses on IPs including IP Panorama and DL-101: Introduction to the Patent
Cooperation Treaty (PCT) from World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), United Nations. In
addition, he was also recommended by CGPDTM, Govt of India and participated in WIPO-INDIA
training course on Patent search and examination for Asian-Pacific countries at RGNIIPM, Nagpur in
October-2016. He also undergone NPTEL-Certification Course of IIT madras on Patent Law for
Engineers and Scientists (July-October 2017), Sponsored by Ministry of HRD, Govt of India.
Dr. Paul is also involved in various interdisciplinary R&D activities. His area of interest includes
environmental safety and biodegradable packaging, edible films and coatings, nano-food
biotechnology for environmental and nutritional safety and security, microbial processing of food,
food microbiological assay, bioprocess technology, fermentation, food biotechnology, food
bioengineering, food product development, industrialization of indigenous food products, IPR
management and related issues. In his domain, he has already published more than 15 international
research papers in reputed journals including the journals of Elsevier, Springer, Taylor and Francis,
De Gryiter etc and several are under process. He also published 6 international book chapters and
encyclopaedia content published by Elsevier and CRC press. He also edited one book on Amylose
and published by Nova Science Publisher, USA. He also contributed in a book on Patent Agent
Examination as co-author published from ISERD India by OrangeBooks Publication, india. Another
books in his name is under process with the publisher. Dr. Paul also filed patents on functional edible
coating in India and also in WIPO-PCT, for which commercialisation avenues are being explored.
Dr. Paul also acts as a reviewer and editorial board member of various journals of his domain. He was
awarded with first prize with gold medal in National IPR Olympiad-2019 for Scientists, organised by
ISERDIndia. He was also honoured with the life membership of Association of Food Scientists &
Technologists, India (AFSTI), Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) and Assam Science
Society.
Presently Dr. Paul is serving as a Scientist in CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad.
